What is a Cell?

A manufacturing cell is a dedicated group of resources operated by a team of multi-skilled individuals that are committed to producing a product or products for one customer. They are highly focused on their task. This is one of meeting the customers needs at all times.

What sort of product?

Most products, or families of products, are suited to cellular manufacture. They need to be relatively stable in design with an ongoing requirement over a life-span that justifies the initial investment.

What you should get from a cell.

The customer of a cell will receive a product that is correct to specification, on time and at the least possible cost. Deliveries improve because with dedicated resources there is no conflict of priorities between other products or customers. Work is scheduled to account for variable delivery programmes. Last minute quality problems or machine breakdowns are avoided through forward planning. The team fully understands the customer needs and is committed to meeting them.

By improving quality, product and process knowledge and maximising the utilisation of both capital equipment and people the costs come down. By costing only the overheads required for the cell the least possible cost for the product is achieved.

Newburgh has always played a proactive rol in environmental management and works within an Environmental Management System accredited to ISO 14001 (2004).

Quality Assurance & Inspection

All company activities are subjected to our independent Quality Assurance surveillance. Quality assurance personnel are formally involved from receipt of enquiries, throughout manufacture, to completion and delivery. The Company's Quality Manual and Departmental Procedures have been formally approved to BS EN ISO 9001 (2000), the scope of which covers the manufacture of precision machined and fabricated engineering components and assemblies for the Defence, Oil & Gas, Aerospace, Nucler, Power Genration, Automotive and other sectors.

All work carried out involves active process and final inspection by our highly skilled personnel. Newburgh's NDE inspectors are all certified to PCN requirements.

The Future

At Newburgh we will continue to develop our excellent flexible general engineering capability. We shall also seek more long-term relationships with our customers and develop bespoke cells to manufacture their products where appropriate.

As a successful contract manufacturer we plan to grow our turnover by 15% per annum over the next 5 years. Planning permission has been granted for phase two and three of our Rotherham factory which will increase workshop space by 65,000 square feet.
