Newburgh Engineering achieves Cyber Essentials Plus certification to support growth in defence and nuclear sectors

Derbyshire-based precision engineering and manufacturing specialist Newburgh Engineering has achieved Cyber Essentials Plus certification, marking another significant milestone in the company’s strategy to strengthen its position within the UK defence and nuclear supply chains.

Based in Bradwell in the Hope Valley, Newburgh Engineering provides high-integrity precision machining, fabrication and engineering solutions to customers across a range of demanding industries, including civil and defence nuclear, defence, aerospace, oil and gas, and power generation.

The achievement builds on the company’s existing Cyber Essentials accreditation and demonstrates its commitment to protecting sensitive information, strengthening cybersecurity and meeting the increasingly stringent requirements of customers operating in highly regulated sectors.

Cyber Essentials Plus is a UK Government-backed cybersecurity certification that requires independent technical verification of an organisation’s security controls. Unlike the standard Cyber Essentials certification, which involves a verified self-assessment, Cyber Essentials Plus includes hands-on testing by an independent assessor to confirm that appropriate protections are in place against common cyber threats.

For Newburgh, achieving the certification forms part of a wider business development strategy focused on securing new opportunities within the defence and nuclear sectors, where cybersecurity, quality assurance, traceability and supply chain resilience are increasingly important considerations when selecting manufacturing partners.

Matt Keeley, Managing Director of Newburgh Engineering, said:

“Achieving Cyber Essentials Plus is an important step forward for Newburgh and demonstrates our commitment to meeting the evolving requirements of our customers, particularly those operating in the defence and nuclear sectors.

“We have a long-established track record of supplying precision-engineered components and assemblies into highly regulated industries, where quality, reliability and traceability are critical.

“As we look to develop new opportunities and strengthen our relationships within these sectors, it is essential that we can demonstrate robust systems and processes, not only in our manufacturing operations but also in the way we protect information and manage cybersecurity risks.

“This certification provides additional reassurance to existing and prospective customers that we take these responsibilities seriously and are continuing to invest in the capabilities and standards needed to support their supply chains.”

Newburgh Engineering is also JOSCAR registered, further demonstrating its commitment to meeting the requirements of customers in the aerospace, defence and security sectors.

JOSCAR (Joint Supply Chain Accreditation Register) is a centralised supplier pre-qualification and compliance system managed by Hellios. It enables participating organisations in the aerospace, defence and security industries to assess suppliers against a range of compliance, risk management and business assurance requirements, helping to streamline procurement processes and improve supply chain confidence.

As a long-established member of Make UK Defence, Newburgh continues to build on its experience within the defence sector, supported by its ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications, JOSCAR registration and now Cyber Essentials Plus.

The employee-owned business offers an extensive range of manufacturing capabilities, including complex multi-axis CNC machining, large-capacity milling and turning, coded welding and fabrication, waterjet cutting and precision inspection. Its experience includes the manufacture of complex components and assemblies where stringent documentation, quality control and traceability are essential.

The achievement of Cyber Essentials Plus further strengthens Newburgh’s credentials as it continues to develop relationships with existing and prospective customers, explore opportunities within major UK defence and nuclear programmes, and position itself for future supply chain growth.
